Dionne Sackiw, MC
“ Hello! My name is Dionne and I am excited to be working with a sacred journey. I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta. I completed my Masters in Counselling Psychology through City University of Seattle and my Bachelor of Arts through the University of Alberta. Through my journey, I have been fortunate to acquire experience working with many children, adolescents and adults who have needed support with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, coping with disability, divorce, family challenges, parenting and relationship issues. A considerable amount of my work over the past 8-10 years has been in school settings with a primary goal of assessing and providing support to children, their families and teachers. I have a special interest in working with children and adolescents from a Play Therapy modality and am excited to be pursuing my registration as a Play Therapist. No matter what, we are never too young or too old to experience play and its restorative powers.
As a practitioner, I am very open, honest, empowering and supportive. I recognize it can be difficult to reach out for help and seek support and I am sensitive and aware of this. I value and respect each of my clients, their family members and care providers. We do not exist alone but rather in relation to one other. I believe in the ability to find strength in all and that even those with the deepest challenges can find new, more positive ways to be in the world. Therapeutically, I am very flexible and want to provide what my clients need. I employ a client-centered approach and pull from a number of different attachment, behavioral, strength-based, narrative, solution focused and developmental conceptualizations and use sand play, art and music therapy. ”
