Your Profile

Your profile is often the first impression potential clients will have of you, and it can help establish your credibility and build trust. It is also the window into how you want to be seen. A well-crafted profile highlighting your strengths and expertise can make you stand out from other mental health professionals and increase your chances of attracting new clients. Keeping your profile up-to-date demonstrates your commitment to your profession and clients, showing you are proactive about keeping your skills and knowledge current and ensures you are attracting your ideal clientele.

Clients often decide who they want to work with based on our clinician profiles before they even call our clinic to complete their intake. Your profile is the first impression. Our advice is that when you are writing your profile, consider who you are writing it for. Your goal is to connect with the client and share how you can support them on their therapeutic journey without overcomplicating it. Remember - you are human before you are a therapist, and we support your authentic expression.

Here are some prompts to get you started! Choose the ones that speak to you:

  • What do your services accomplish from your client’s point of view? When they come to you, what results do they expect?

  • What population are you the most excited to work with and why?

  • What brought you to the profession?

  • What treatment modality do you like to use and why?

  • Do you diagnose clients? If so, why? If not, why?

  • Are you directive or more passive in your interventions? What does this look like for the client?

  • Are you goal oriented? What does this mean for the client?

  • What adjectives would your clients use to describe themselves?

  • Does your ideal client have any passions or hobbies?

  • What does a typical session with you look like (i.e. Structured? Go with the flow? Will there be homework)?

  • What type of client sparks your fire (i.e. motivated, self-reflective, completely lost and in need of A-Z)?'

  • Why do clients come to you? What goals do your clients generally have?

  • What are the typical presenting concerns you have worked with, and how have you supported clients in the past?

  • Why would a client choose you over another therapist in the community? What sets you apart? What makes your practice and approach unique?

  • How do you hold a safe space for clients?

  • How do you define a fair exchange?

Pro Tip: We know you worked for a long time to earn your degree and credentials, and we are so glad you did because you are here now! With that in mind, leading with your academic information can create an automatic power imbalance with your clients before you even sit with them. Start with what attracted you to the profession, and then if you still desire, share some of the details of your educational journey. Please note that you do have a section on your profile page that already lists your education/credentials. Try to avoid industry lingo. For example, it’s great that you are client-centred, but what does that actually mean? What does it feel like to be in a client-centred session with a therapist?

Choosing your profile picture:

An up-to-date profile picture is important for several reasons, including establishing trust and authenticity. Clients are more likely to feel comfortable reaching out to a therapist whose picture they can see as it helps create a more personal connection. As such, we encourage you to consider updating your profile picture regularly.

a sacred journey does not have a specific format for profile photos - we celebrate individuality and authenticity. Consider the stage you want to set for your clients and how you want to represent yourself. Yep - even “selfies” are acceptable. Really. The only thing we do ask is that you submit 2-3 clear and well-lit photos.

a sacred journey offers our team members a complimentary posting on our website that receives hundreds of views monthly.
